Now let me come correct here. I like haunted house-type movies when they're done well. In the best of cases (Alien, The Haunting), very little needs to be seen to evoke fear in the audience. In the worst of cases (insert your own modern horror film here), everything is shown up front without a sense of build or suspense... or you're simply teased with brief images and not concrete visuals. Insidious sort of falls somewhere in between.
