Washington (CNN) -- For years, Jeff Ragsdale was in and out of jug, tall aboard pills and alcohol, and homeless.

"I've had so many contingencies, yet this time it's truly working out. I'm a little extra focused than I was in the quondam," he said.

This weekend, he was portion of a group of chefs from DC Central Kitchen who are busy boiling 6,000 egg because the daily White House Easter Egg Roll.

After many failed ventures to get neat and clutch a steady job, Ragsdale applied to DC Central Kitchen's Culinary Job Training program. He's one of hundreds of chefs who have graduated from the program,beats headphones,Obamas attend local church on Easter Sunday - CNN.com, which is geared toward helping formerly incarcerated and homeless adults get back on their feet.

"It makes you feel good to know thatyou're a part of an organization that does so many good asset for the community and to be acknowledged by the White House, you understand it doesn't get much better than that. It makes me feel good that I tin be a part of something of this importance."

This is third year that students and graduates of DC Central Kitchen's job exercising program have helped apt arrange the White House Easter Egg Roll, which is hosted along President Obama and the premier madame.

The pantry serves almost 5,000 meals a day, 365 days a year to those in need in the DC zone. But the 16-week job training program has been at its gist for almost 20 years,monster beats, spokesman Bryan MacNair said.

Graduates of the program, which boasted an 80% job placement rate in 2009, migrate on to work at cafeterias,dre headphones, hotels and convention hearts. The program equips students with culinary and sanitation skills, but "really, 40 alternatively 50 percentage are life capabilities," MacNair said.

Dwain Arrington is variant chef who is thriving in the program. It's the first job he has held afterward costing 12 years in prison for weapons estate. Here, he feels like people know him, and he takes proud in their collective achievements.

"A lot of folks worked via my similar position and maybe worse. They told me their stories and how they overcame their adversity. I just stuck with it. They saw someone in me that I didn't look. Ragsdale says the best emotion for him is to give back to a community he took so much from in distressed times.
