Default Who’s the boss among most expensive cars?

Mercedes wins but Jaguar Land Rover surprises, coming in second. JOHANNESBURG - You can afford a Porsche. That’s the message from Porsche SA marketing head Christo Kruger after the famous German marque cracked sales of more than 100 in October. He points out that Porsche has an image of unaffordability but the bottom-of-the-range Porsche Cayenne priced at R650 000 is half the price of some of its rivals such as, Range Rover and the most expensive Toyota Land Cruiser. The Cayman and the Boxster are even cheaper at R600 000 and R568 000 respectively. Kruger said in its best month Porsche had achieved sales of 160. Because Porsches are all pre-ordered, sales performance depends a lot on when compress DVD-9 type DVD movies to one DVD-5 disc shipments arrive. Kruger said the waiting list for Porsches is four to six months. In unit terms, sales have grown at more than 10% in the past year. Porsche’s surprising popularity motivated Moneyweb to ask Response Group Trendline, official score keepers for the National Association of Motor Manufacturers, to investigate the market shares of all cars retailing at more than R650 000 for the first ten months of 2011. In total 12 431 units were sold in this period. Porsche came in fourth in this elite category with a market share of 7% by units sold in ten months to October. It would have been higher if we had reduced the threshold to R585 000, as that would have included the Cayman and the Boxster. Mercedes Benz was unsurprisingly top of the expensive car pops. Another big surprise is that Jaguar Land Rover came in second, ahead of BMW. Land Rover’s Discovery 4 was by far the top seller copy DVD-5 type DVD movies to one DVD-9(Dual Layer) disc of all passenger cars above R650 000, with 16% of the sample. Some Discovery 4s are priced at R571 000 and were excluded from the survey. Jaguar Land Rover marketing boss Graham Sacca said the Disco is doing well because it is handsome, is spacious with seven seats and has superior towing ability. It is the only SUV allowed to tow a horse box. Sacca was delighted with the Range Rover Evoque’s first month’s sales figure of more than 200. He said he had orders for 800 more. One dealer last weekend sold 180 Evoques. Sacca said Jaguar-Land Rover’s partnership with Tata was working well. Tata boss Ratan Tata had personally made suggestions for the new-look Range Rover. The company will be bringing out at least one new model a year. The next generation Range Rover and a completely redesigned Defender are in development. The prototype new Defender will be tested against How to Copy Clone Backup DVD include subtitle rivals in SA, Australia and the United Arab Emirates. The Discovery was followed by the BMW’s X5 (11% of the over-R650 000 sample), the Mercedes M Class (10%) and the Toyota Prado (8%). That means the top four vehicles were sports utility vehicles (SUVs), commanding 45% of the over-R650 000 market. RGT analyst Andrew Hibbert observes: “South Africans’ preference for SUVs is underlined in that this type of vehicle accounts for 70% of sales in the sample. Eight of the top ten cars above R650 000 are four-by-fours. Mercedes C and E Classes and BMW’s 3 series are the only non-SUVs that feature in this survey. “ Had we made the threshold lower, say R500 000, the market shares would have looked different, as the popular Toyota Fortuner, the Jeep and Mitsubishi ranges and Porsche’s Cayman and Boxster would have been in the running.
