Antivirus For Windows Server2008 R2 HiI would like to get some practical knowledge in server administration,Windows 7 Starter Key, so Iinstalled Windows Server2008 R2 but was sorry to look for out that"normal" security programs (like Kaspersky Internet Security) do notsupport server operating systems...For now, I switched back to Windows 7, but I would really want to use2008 R2...I heard that the firewall in R2 is quite good, so the only thing Ineed can be a antivirus software that can be installed on R2...I contacted the local distributor for NOD32, and they told me that onelicense for NOD32 Antivirus for Windows File Server costs 190 USD.This is quite expensive and I was hoping to search for a cheaper solution..Can anyone help me with this?? I forgot to mention....R2 will be installed on my home computer which is behind a localnetwork and I use this computer for private reasons only (VisualStudio and surfing), so I just need a "normal" antivirus so I can surfthe web securely and scan files from USB sticks and such... Andrea Cannot Ping From Server2008 To Virtual Server Server2003. I have a Virtual Server running Server 2003 at a remote location with a persistant VPN between the 2 sites. And I have a Windows2008 server and an SBS server at the home office. I am able to ping the virtual server from the sbs box, but not the 2008 box. If I ping the 2008 box from the virtual server, that works fine, then for about a minute I can ping the virtual server from the 2008 server, then it quits after a minute or so. Where can I look to diagnose this?
There are no errors with the VPN/Routers on either side. No local firewalls are running.

Ed Server2008'S Hyper-V Is Great! But How Do I Read/Write To your Host'S Drives? Hi guys! At the university, I was issued some statistical software that will
run only in Windows 2000 and XP. This WAS a problem, since I have
Server2008 installed on my work station. The software installed in a
Hyper-V virtual machine by using the media/DVD/Capture pulldowns. The
Hyper-V virtual machine is using XP/SP3! :) Now, I need to read over 70 gigs of text data zipped for analysis. It
will expand to almost 800 gigs of text data. I see how I can get it inside the virtual c:and d:drive(s) using my
browser and FTP from the original publisher, and how to acquire it via the
DVD drive. But this data is already on an HDD on my work station outside of my
virtual machine. How can I access files on my PC outside of my virtual PC? Thank you, Mindy Isa + Windows Firewall + Symantec Antivirus 10 Hello, Can anyone advise what I need to do to make sure that I can manage and deploy SAV 10 where ISA 2004 & Windows Firewall are deployed. Do I need to make changes for the Firewall Client? I would love it so I can deploy SAV using the Symantec tools also. I'd prefer to make changes at the Group Policy so information for that configuration is appreciated. When I Googled this issue a university website seemed to suggest that the previous configuration for other SAV versions does not work for 10. Thanks Antivirus For Windows Server 2003 I am a developer and am currently using Win XP on my development machine. I
would love to change to Windows Server 2003 (already have it).
The machine is standalone, no other users. My problem is virus protection. Symantec and Mcafee require purchasing corporate editions with multi-user
licenses and corresponding price tags. Their standard versions will not run
on Win Server 2K3, but I have no use for the extra licenses. Does anyone have a suggestion for earthly priced virus protection? TIA -- Alphonse Giambrone

Prabhat Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.1.4 And Windows Firewall I have installed Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.1.4 in my environment which is as follows: 1. Intel based Server running Microsoft SBS 2003 Premium Edition Server
2. Clients: Windows XP 3. Clients Windows 98 We have installed client security of 10.1.4 only on Windows XP clients but retained SAV 8.x or 9.x on windows 98 clients. We are facing following issues: Windows XP clients are not communicating well with the server. I understand that few ports ( e.g. TCP 139) and other programs like rtvscan.exe and pds.exe need for being permitted by using Windows Firewall Domain. We tested the Windows XP clients by disabling Windows Firewall on SBS Server and on Windows XP clients, that worked. Now my queries are: 1. If I am correct, then can you please guide us how to open this port and permit these programs to communicate throgh Windows Firewall. 2. What settings need to be done on SBS Server and Windows XP clients. 3. What other ports to be opened or programms to be permitted by means of Windows Firewall. Can anyone help Thanking you in anticipation AKG Suggest Me A Good Antivirus For My X64 Windows Server 2008 Hi,

Vijay chandar Standalone Antivirus For Windows 2003 Server Standard Hello All I visted a few pots related to antivirus but non of them answer my question. I was wondering which standalone antivirus you would recomend for a windows 2003 server standard edition machine used as a webserver only. This machine is not a domain controller. I don't need a client/server solution. The ones I am looking at so far are : TrendMicro, Fsecure, Norton and Anast Could you anyone help with another input ? Regards Arnold Norton Antivirus 2006 Compatibility With Windows 2000 Server My boss just bought NAV2006, and is expecting me to load it on Win2000 servers ... I keep getting error messages telling me that it can't be done! Does anyone know a work-around or a how-to??? Symantec Antivirus 10.0.1.1000 Hangs Windows 2003 Web Server As I work for a hosting company, we have a great number of MS Windows 2003 (Web Server Edition) hosting over 1000 websites. This server also runs IMAIL and Serv-U FTP server. We had Symantec Antivirus 9.x installed on the servers, however we have decided to upgrade to Version 10. Upon installation of Version 10.0 the server was fine for about 5 minutes, soon after, services started to hang and the machine became unresponsive. I had to reboot the machine in safe mode,Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Plus, disable the Symantec Services and then uninstall the application, if we just rebooted, the system would immediately hang. We thought the problem was caused by the internet email Auto Protect - so we tried again and disabled this feature. Again the server worked fine for about 5 minutes before becoming unresponsive. We use the Symantec System Manager Console to enforce policies on our Symantec clients.
Hardware:
Dual Xeon P4's.
2GB of RAM Task Manager shows CPU and memory utilization to get more than sufficient before NAV install. After NAV install, NAV process uses about 15% of CPU. Anyone run across this problem?? (we are not running APC PowerChute - known issue) Thanks,
Derek. "Best" Antivirus - Part 2: "Worst" Antivirus I would really like to thank everybody that spent some time to answer my question on the first place, which antivirus do you consider as the perfect solution for a small network with SBS 2003. From you comments I got to a few points:
- no one is using McAfee (!!!)
- It seems like the most popular solution is Trend
- Other products with positive comments were CA, Sophos, NOD32 and AVG One point that was discussed slightly more and seems to be interesting was the problems that each one of you had to face with antivirus and of course this is important. So I would like to ask everybody what is the worst anvirus solution for such a scenario (file server, email, desktops, ...) -- Panagiotis (Panos) Ladas Antivirus How do you turn on the ability for your virus scanner to delete messages in

-Rick Antivirus This may be an odd question but are there any free antivirus solutions out there for Server 2003? Antivirus I have been using Symantec Products for years with clients. However now with release 10.x and the associated problems, I am starting to think it may be time to look elsewhere. Does anyone have good expertise with Antivirus products on SBS2003 if so which products? Thanks "Best" Antivirus? Good morning everybody, I just wanted to ask which antivirus solution do you consider for being most effective for a SBS 2003 and the users' desktops? I get rather confused with all the available choices (Symantec, Trend, Sophos, McAfee) as the SBS environment is broad (Exchange, File Server, Win XP Desktops that have to get protection). Do you have any suggestions or just opinions? Kind regards
-- Panagiotis (Panos) Ladas Most beneficial Antivirus I'm running win 2k3 enterprise as a stand alone web, mail, ftp server. Please share with me the most effective and easiest to configure antivirus app to run on this machine.

Exchange 2003 installed
FTP site active What we need may be a good, low cost, all in 1 solution. The software would be
able to do this: Identify any virus that is uploaded to FTP and remove it.
Identify any virus that is sent to the Exchange server and remove it.
Identify any virus that is sent to the server via CD-Rom, floppy, etc. and
remove it.
Update virus defs every couple of hours, and have a team that is pretty fast
identifying new threats & writing a fix for them. We need the software to do this and we really only need 1 license (not 5,
10, etc.). Is there such a package out there? Antivirus Dear al I just installed the TrendMicro ScanMail on Exchange 2003. The version is 6.2 and the Store is applied the latest patch. I cannot remember the verision number. My question is after applied the patch, the RealTimeScan is stopped after a few minutes. When I restart the service, it will stop again after a minutes. I try to remove the patch and reinstall the Anti-virus but did not work. Please advice. Regards Antivirus there is any installed antivirus software in sbs 2003 premium, or it has to become purchased apart? Antivirus For Sbs A while ago I posted an enquiry about antivirus.
After trialling Sophos SBE (support just ignores customers - I'm just
finicky really - I like my emails answered), we decided to go with Symantec
Antivirus 9 with Groupware Protection. This protects servers, desktops,
Exchange and handles spam and email content. Remote users are protected as
well.
We only have 5 users, so it worked out well for us,Windows 7 Ultimate Product Key, especially as it was
less than half the price of Sophos. Pays to shop around. Might not suit everyone's taste ( GUI interface sways
purchases these days) but I thought I'd share the info. regards to all
Mario Antivirus -Yes Or No? Every place I've worked on has always had some sort of antivirus program on the Exchange that scans within the information store and protects it from getting infected. My latest company doesn't have it and all my previous work experiences has it but I can't really know why we would. All the places I've worked at including this current place has a mail proxy at the network border that scans all incoming mail for viruses/spam and has antivirus on the end user's desktop. Would there be any benefits in putting another layer of protection on the Exchange Servers itself? This can be a pretty big environment and it is an Exchange 2003 cluster environment. Does anyone know of any incident where an Exchange information store is totally wiped out or damaged due to a virus? Any related links to white papers on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Sbs And Antivirus Hi.
I hope someone can help me out here.
I have just got my head into a small business server 2003 and need to know which or what kinda antivirus that i can use on it. As of what i understand i can't install and run a regular antivirus as i use on my computer/workstation?
I found some but they seem to deliver minimum 5 licenses, and i need only one, and that is for the server. I already have antivirus running on the 3 workstations in my office.
Any suggestions? do i need to burn off alot of money for antivirus or is there a cheap and good option?
Please help me out here, i am brand new to using a server and DELL who supplied/delivered this for me seems hard to obtain any advice from...
Kind Regards from helpless user...
Roar Skaug Antivirus I am about to upgrade the company POP3 server to 2007. I intend to have one server with all roles. I have been told by my supplier than McAfee and Symantec do not do an antivirus product to cover 2007. Is this true and if so who does? Obviously I want the server protected. Use Of Antivirus SUS would not allow the use of antivirus programs. Will WSUS allow it?

Dreamer A+, Network+, MCP Antivirus what antivirus can be used on ws 2003 r2 think you Antivirus I have exchange 2000 server and i want to scan with antivirus for virus. Can scan your drive Exchange(M) or i will have problem?
If can not scan how i'm sure that it doesn't have virus? Antivirus ? Hi, I'm looking at installing an antivirus and antispam program on my clients
exchange 2K server. Is there any products out there aside from Symantec's
Mail Security for MS Exchange that does both? Any feedback would be great. Thanks Antivirus Hello all - Can anyone recommend a good, inexpensive Antivirus solution that works well with SBS 2003? Thanks in advance.
-Chuck How Much Antivirus Is Enough? Hi I have a customer who has 3 sites connected via vpn. All three
branches have an exchange server. all emails flows into the main
branch and is then delivered for the appropriate mailbox on the other
servers. They are using an antivirus/spam filter that is hosted off-
site (appriver). The main branch's exchange server has Symantec Mail
Security 5.0. Is it required that the other two exchange servers also
have messaging antivirus installed? Thanks in advance...
Andy Api Antivirus Hello, What is exactly a VAPI for Exchange?
It's a library DLL which scans store.exe? Thanks 64 Bit Antivirus Can anyone suggest a cheap but good antivirus package for servers running exchange 2007? I had a look at various big names but their product seems to only mention sutability for 64bit enviroment in a rather half hearted manner. It looks to me as if there are no definitive antivirus products for Exchange 2007 servers yet. I would prefer to have software that is not too expensive as I am doing this for a charity with limited budget. Any suggestion from the group? Thanks. -- Ed Antivirus We purchased Symantec Antivirus 8.0 for small businesses because it had
exchange protection. I am getting virus detection messages from .eml files
inside the exchsvr/.../queue folder. I think it is detecting viruses in emails
when the .eml arrives but then the mail gets routed and it picks up the
virus again when the user is getting it and quarintines it. I thought that
it would pick it up in the queue, is there a product that will get it in the
first step. Are we in danger right now???? Thanks
