Christophe Decarnin, the French designer at Balmain, re-created a modern "Court of Versailles" with a rock 'n' roll beat, at Paris Fashion Week .

The show was a hectic parade of dash, flash - and lots of cash - as 34 models, long of leg and all with long blonde hair - raced around the catwalk to a mix of Prince hits, smiling and preening as they caught glimpses of themselves in the mirrored walls of the Grand Hotel's ballroom.
The show attracted a frenzy of paparazzi and a traffic jam of limousines, decanting the brand's wealthy clientele and who have elevated this once dormant "dowager" French label to the height of "if-you've-got-it-flaunt-it" chic.
