Musings from Chase Field

It is days like this that I recall something Omar Minaya told me before last season. As much as he enjoys pursuing big-name free agents and working the phones to swing trades, Minaya says he has more fun assembling his bench.
To wit: Willie Randolph is giving Moises Alou another day off to rest his ailing knee, allowing David Newhan to make his first start of the season. Carlos Beltran is sore, so Endy Chavez is playing center. Paul Lo Duca never plays both games of a night-day set, meaning Ramon Castro is in there.
