Despite putting up big numbers year after year since his breakthrough with the Yankees,
Los Angeles Angels Hats sale, Alfonso Soriano has had a tough time earning true superstar status. Maybe being traded for Alex Rodriguez had something to do with the high expectations over the years.
He’s hitting a very respectable .283 with 11 homers and 29 runs batted in while battling injury this season, but after Soriano dropped a ball Sunday in the outfield that allowed the Pittsburgh Pirates to tie the game and eventually win, his critics had more ammunition. (Did they forget about his two-run homer in the third that quickly?)
According to the Chicago Tribune, broadcaster Bob Brenly said after the error that “Soriano was not a ‘superstar,’ and that you could ‘throw a dart’ in the Cubs dugout and any player you would hit could play outfield better than Soriano.”
The Chicago Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti recently wrote that Soriano, “can make messes all season and still draw his $14 million,
