Default AMC's 'Hell on Wheels' Will Keep Rolling for Second Season

Though “Hell on Wheels” may not match the ratings-boosting power provided by the undead hordes of its AMC sibling “The Air Jordan High Heels, Walking Dead,” its own shambolically attired characters will be back for a second season, the cable channel announced on Tuesday. “Hell on Wheels,” a historical drama set during the post-Civil War construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, stars Anson Mount as a former Confederate soldier seeking his wife’s killers; the rap artist Common as a freed slave; and the aptly named Colm Meaney as a ruthless industrialist. When “Hell on Wheels” made its debut on Nov. 6, after a new episode of the highly rated Nike Dunk Heels “Walking Dead,” it was viewed by 4.4 million people in its initial broadcast, making it the second most-watched series premiere on AMC, second only to “The Walking Dead” itself. Ratings for “Hell on Wheels” have since declined to between 2 million and 3 million viewers per episode, though its overall average of 3.2 million remains strong for the network. The final episode of its first Women Dunk SB Heels season is scheduled for Jan. 15.
